I want to hear your Spotify Wrapped
Ever since I learned how to sort my iTunes library by ‘Date Added’ instead of Alphabetically I’ve been shocked by how I can look back at an album and remember when my taste first shifted from meme music & music I had to learn for school to the classic rock that I thought I was supposed to like.
I remember when in 2011 I heard Kanye West and Bon Iver for the first time and decided to give modern music a try. I remember going to a concert at Brick Street and thinking the opening act was going to be the next big thing (they weren’t). I remember when we all liked bands with banjos in them. I remember the music my housemates and I thought would be great to play at house parties senior year.
There are the playlists I created then I remember the people I created them for. There are the songs I started to like because of who I lived with. There are songs that changed my perspective and allowed me to see outside my own experience.
So yes, I want to see your Spotify Wrapped, or Apple Music or just share what you’ve been listening to and how it’s affected you. What were you listening to this year in all its trials and tribulations? Why did it resonate with you? Was there a song you clung to when we were told to stay at home and avoid human contact? What spoke for the unheard as thousands marched in the streets. Was there something that embodied summer gatherings and barbecues outside before we were all told to stay home again?
